കുഞ്ചു : The അഞ്ചാമൻ's - ചൊറിതനം story

Once upon a time, in the remote village of Kumpamon, lived Kunchiyamma, who unlike in the folklore that says "കുഞ്ചിയമ്മയ്ക്കഞ്ചു മക്കളാണേ" - had 8 മക്കൾ. Amongst the 8, there was the 5th one - the notorious "അഞ്ചാമൻ പഞ്ചാര കുഞ്ചു " - who as per the പാണൻപാട്ടുകൾ heard in the village - was the naughtiest among the 8 and the pain in the.. Ehh.. Head (for the time being) for Kunchiyamma.

There are many tales of കുഞ്ചു as a kid - tricking his siblings, his obstinacy in getting what he wanted, etc etc..

The most interesting tale among that features കുഞ്ചു waiting for a bath - insisting that - കുഞ്ചിയമ്മ തന്നെ കുളിപ്പിച്ച് തരണം.

കുഞ്ചിയമ്മ who is busy in the kitchen tries coaxing her elder daughter (who is like 10 years elder to കുഞ്ചു ) to bathe കുഞ്ചു.

പക്ഷെ not walking - നടക്കൂല്ല.. കുഞ്ചു insists on കുഞ്ചിയമ്മ herself bathing him. കുഞ്ചു creates a ruckus at home.

The pissed off കുഞ്ചിയമ്മ applies oil on her hand, goes to the backyard, pulls out some 'ചൊറിയണം/ ചൊറിതനം' plant (which causes itches and rashes on skin if touched without applying oil), comes to bathe കുഞ്ചു, pretending that the thing in hand is the harmless ഇഞ്ച (scrub to bathe him)..

And the rest is 😝😝😝😝

Camera now shifts to 2021 - a flat in the suburbs of the state capital.

"അമ്മ ഇപ്പൊ തന്നെ വന്നു ചെയ്തേ പറ്റത്തുള്ളൂ "

"ടീ, ഞാൻ ഒരു call ഇലാണ്.. ഒരു 5 മിനിറ്റ്.. ഇപ്പൊ വരാം "

"പറ്റത്തില്ല, ഇപ്പോ തന്നെ വന്നേ പറ്റൂ!"

The lady dials her dad's number.

"ആഹ്, പപ്പാ, ഞാൻ ഇന്ന് വൈകിട്ടു അങ്ങോട്ട്‌ വരുന്നുണ്ട്."

"എന്താ വിശേഷം? പൂജേടെ അവധി ഉണ്ടോ?"

"ഇല്ല, ലീവ് എടുത്തു നാളെ. അമ്മച്ചി പപ്പക്ക് തന്ന മരുന്നിന്റെ ചെടി ഒരു മൂട് നമ്മടെ പറമ്പിൽ ഉണ്ടെങ്കിൽ എടുത്തു വച്ചേരെ.. ഇവിടെ കൊച്ചിന് കൊടുക്കാനാ.."

"ഏതാ മോളെ, പനിക്കൂർക്ക ആണോ?"

"ഓ! അതൊന്നുമല്ലന്നെ.. മറ്റേ.. ചൊറിതനം ഇല്ലേ.. അത്!

"അപ്പച്ചന്റെ  legacy" കാത്തുസൂക്ഷിക്കാൻ ഇവിടൊരുത്തി ശ്രമിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. എന്നെ കൊണ്ടാവുന്ന പോലെ ഒരു "കൈ സഹായം" ഇടക്ക് ഞാനും ചെയ്തു കൊടുക്കണ്ടേന്ന് കരുതി!"
