Are you a Feminist?

1) ഫെമിനിസം എന്ന് വച്ചാ ഈ പെണ്ണുങ്ങൾ ഇറക്കമില്ലാത്ത തുണി ഇട്ടു നടക്കുന്നതും അതൊക്കെ സോഷ്യൽ മീഡിയയിൽ ഇടുന്നതും ആണോ? 

Ans: കറക്റ്റ് !! പെണ്ണുങ്ങൾ എന്തു വസ്ത്രം ഇടുന്നു എന്നുള്ളതല്ല ഫെമിനിസം. 

ആരെന്തു വസ്ത്രം ഇട്ടാലും അതവരുടെ ചോയ്സ് ആണെന്നും ഒരാണിനെ പോലെ തന്നെ പെണ്ണിനും  ഏത് തുണി ഇടാനും പടം പോസ്റ്റ്‌ ചെയ്യാനും ഉള്ള സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം ഉണ്ടെന്നും അത് കാണുന്ന ഒരാൾ (സ്ത്രീയോ പുരുഷനോ ആകട്ടെ ) ഉൾക്കൊള്ളുന്നതാണ് ഫെമിനിസം.

2) ഫെമിനിസ്റ്റ് ആകുന്നതു ഒരു മോശം കാര്യമാണോ? 

Ans: വിവേചനങ്ങൾ - ജാതി, മത, വർഗ, വംശീയ, വർണ - വിവേചനങ്ങൾ തെറ്റാണെങ്കിൽ, അത് പോലെ തന്നെ ഒരു തെറ്റാണ് gender based discrimination അഥവാ  ലിംഗവിവേചനം. 

Feminism is standing against gender based discrimination. It's not placing one gender above another. It's a statement that everybody should have the same privileges and rights irrespective of their gender. 

"ഞാൻ ഒരു ഫെമിനിസ്റ്റ് അല്ല" എന്ന് നിങ്ങൾ പറയുമ്പോൾ നിങ്ങൾ പറയുന്നത് - I do not support gender equality and I stand for gender discrimination - എന്നാണ്. 

ഇപ്പോഴും dowry ഉം female genocide ഉം  foeticide  ഉം  (recently a 40 days old girl child here in trivandrum)ഒക്കെ അരങ്ങു വാഴുന്ന നമ്മുടെ നാട്ടിൽ gender equality ന്നൊക്കെ പറഞ്ഞാൽ മനസ്സിലാക്കാനുള്ള വെളിവ് വിരലിൽ എണ്ണാവുന്നവർക്കേ കാണു.. എന്നാലും പറയാതെ തരമില്ലല്ലോ.. 

ഇനി സ്വയം ചോദിക്ക് - 

നിങ്ങൾ ഒരു ഫെമിനിസ്റ്റ് ആവുന്നതാണോ ആവാത്തതാണോ കുറവെന്ന്? 

ഫെമിനിസത്തിലെ gender equality യെ നിങ്ങൾ ഭയക്കുന്നത് എന്തു കൊണ്ടാണെന്ന്? 

സൊസൈറ്റി നൽകുന്ന patriarchy യുടെ comfort zone നഷ്ടപ്പെടുമോ എന്നുള്ളതാണോ ഭയം എന്ന്? 

ഒന്നു കൊണ്ടും ഭയക്കേണ്ട, എന്തായാലും നമ്മുടെ ഒന്നും ജീവിതകാലത്തു ഈ patriarchy മാറാൻ പോകുന്നില്ല.. It's a really long journey and we are hardly at the grass root levels! 

Another point to be noted is that :

There is no hard and fast rule that a feminist should and must react to all sort of crimes committed against female gender. 

Because crime again - irrespective of the gender of the victim - is crime and needs justice. There is no gender bias!
